Amy Winehouse – Back To Black (2007)

Who is this girl, really? I’m genuinely surprised to hear something like this in year 2007.

She’s only 24 years old but she is like a resurrection of Billy Holiday. When I first loaded this CD in the player, I thought I mistakenly placed an old Jazz/Soul album from Billy Holiday.

She’s less mainstream than Joss Stone but she’s more soul, more into that era.

Her voice embraces the richness of 60’s soul and jazz but still manages to be contemporary in her lyrics.
It’s quite shocking to hear this type of old soul voice and songwriting while keeping them current.

To me, she has much more spirit than Norah Jones or Joss Stone.
