Explosions In The Sky and Sigur Rós
“Explosions In The Sky” is an instrumental indie rock band from Texas. I’m a true sucker when it comes to instrumental rocks. It’s so weired that even without a single word, the instruments alone can convey so much emotion. This album is, IMO, one of the better instrumental rock records.

“Explosions In The Sky” is, due to the similarities of style, often compared to Sigur Rós. People call this type of music “post-rock” or “experimental rock”. Regardless of whatever you would call it, there’s something so special about Sigur Rós that no other band can touch.
It was in 2002, I was driving down from SF on freeway 101 when I played the new cd that I just bought. I don’t even remember what made me buy this album without knowing the album title (I first thought the “()” shape was just a graphic), not to mention what kind of music they would be playing.
Couldn’t understand a single word on the album not that many of them are there (of course, it wasn’t meant to be understood). Only a few minutes later I found tears dropping on my face. While driving the dark, lonely freeway and listening to this absolutely amusing music, I felt like I was in another place, another planet. The music was so heartbreaking that I literally kept shedding tears almost for the entire drive.
And that was how Sigur Rós came into my life. It’s not often that I felt music from the bottom of my heart. There are probably only a few of bands in this millennium that I truly consider changed my life. Sigur Rós is one of them.

Explosions in the Sky – nice soundscape. hard hitting. Don’t know Sigue Ross at all, will have to check them out. Not enough contemporary stuff for me. Thanks!
