Mew
While I was visiting San Diego area a month ago, I picked up a good radio station. They were playing indie rocks and new bands all day some of which I never heard before. (I blame OC. There is no single radio station that I like here)
Anyway, I encountered Mew on the radio then. The song was “Special” and instantly liked it. And I went on checking their myspace. 4 songs on their myspace (http://www.myspace.com/mew) were quite fresh and charming.
A few days ago my friend SM (and her life friend) inspired me to listen to Mew more closely and I’m glad she did. Otherwise I just would have forgotten Mew.
Their sound can only be described as “dreamy” and the adjective “dreamy” is so well fitting here. Allmusic is describing their music “Space Rock.” How appropriate is that.
Mew is from Denmark, a band with 4 members. I’ve checked out their recent album, And the Glass Handed Kites and Frengers from 2003. Both are absolutely worth listening to but personally prefer the recent one.

My favorite tracks are “Special” and “The Zookeeper’s Boy” both of which you can find from their Myspace. (http://www.myspace.com/mew)

A few restaurants in NYC
Well, didn’t have enough time to explore more of delicious foods in NYC. But here are the ones that I tried.
It’s a chic, romantic and modern restaurant with Asian fusion foods. Notwithstanding a bit pricey bills, I quite enjoyed the food and drinks. Their cocktails are tasty and the ambiance is cool. Reservation recommended.
I love tapas because I can try many small dishes. The food at Pipa was excellent. The only downside was the noise level. It was too loud that I couldn’t even hear what my friends were saying unless they raised their voice. Pipa was good but I prefer Sala where you can get the best tapas and sangria in a more calm environment.
When I go to NYC, it’s hard to find a decent place where I can comfortably eat good foods, enjoy coffee and read books by myself, operative word being ‘good foods’. This french pastry restaurant chain is a cozy cafe for everybody. I found their breakfast offerings were excellent without the intimidating environment. Oh, the hot chocolate is a must!
Casual ramen place in midtown. I wouldn’t call it the best ramen place ’cause it’s not. The ramen here is decent but a bit salty for me. But if you are in Midtown and don’t have the energy to stroll other place, Men Kui Tei is not a bad choice.
